The debate in the United States (US) regarding the general application of the death penalty rages on, but the issues surrounding the execution of juveniles (those persons below the age of 18 at the time of the crime) attracts intense debate. As of August 2005, 79 juveniles are sitting on death rows throughout the US, with Texas boasting 28 child offenders, each awaiting their fate on one of the busiest death rows in the US.

(The Missouri Supreme Court has recently declared that the execution of juvenile offenders is "cruel and unusual" punishment. This page will keep the Missouri offenders in the statistics until the state of Missouri has exhausted its possible appeals)
Other websites may or may not count juveniles awaiting re-sentencing in their total numbers. We include these inmates in our totals to keep you aware of their status.
